Guruvayur
Guruvayur is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centers of Kerala. The Centuries old Sree Krishna temple or the Guruvayoor temple lies here. This historic temple shrouded in mystery, is believed to be the creation of Guru, the preceptor of the Devas and Vayu. The notable features are the 33.5 mt high gold plated 'Dwajasthambam' (flag post) in the 'Chutambalam' or outer enclosure, and the 7mt high 'Dipastambham' (pillar of lamps) whose thirteen circular receptacles provide a truly gorgeous spectacle when lit. The square 'Sreekovil' is the sacred sanctum sanctorum of the temple which houses the main deity. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple. An unusual feature of the temple at Guruvayoor is the timing of the rituals. The sanctum opens at 0300 am and closes at 1300 during which a continuous series of pujas and processions are held.

Kerala Tourist Destinations Silent Valley National Park

Silent Valley National Park
The Silent valley National Park is highly popular in the state of Kerala, still it is one amongst those that are untouched by the passage of time. Its topographical seclusion ensured that the area remains uninhabited and continues to preserve the flora and fauna that house it. Visitors get very permission to explore a limited area and overnight stay is discouraged. A special permission needs to be sought from the Wildlife Warden for this purpose. The park is located on the Kundali Hills of Western Ghats, 65 km north east of Palakkad.

Kerala Tourist Destinations Bekal Fort

Kasargod
Kasargod, the 14th district of Kerala, located in the northern extreme, lies on the banks of the Payaswini River. Renowned for its handloom and coir industry, it is one of the most enchanting districts bounded by the Western Ghats in the east and the Arabian sea in the west & blessed with water, forest and mineral resources. Earlier Kasargod was a part of South Kanara district of the Madras Presidency under the British, and after the states re-organisation in 1956, it became a part Malabar district and was later added to the Kannur district..

Bekal Fort:
The important features of this fort are the tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening towards the south, the magazine for keeping ammunition and the broad and wide steps leading to the Observation Tower which is a rarity. From there one has ample view of towns in the vicinity like Kanhangad, Pallikare, Bekal, Kottikkulam, Uduma etc. This observation centre had strategic significance in finding out even the smallest movements of the enemy and ascertaining safety of the Fort.

The Fort appears to have been built up from the sea since almost three fourth of its exteriors is drenched and the waves stroke the citadel. The Mukhyaprana Temple of Hanuman and the ancient Muslim Mosque nearby hold testimony to the age-old religious harmony that prevailed in the area. The zigzag entrance and the trenches around the fort show the defense strategy connected with the fort.
